Complete "Wise Clock 3" kit now available

The "Complete Wise Clock 3 kit", shown in the photo below, includes:

The main clock mode, "Quote" (hence the name "Wise Clock"), is shown in the video below.

Here is Wise Clock 3 running Pong as another clock mode:

Besides being an alarm clock, Wise Clock 3 has the following features:
  • ability to set the time, date and day from the buttons, in an intuitive and user-friendly way;
  • display a user-editable, personalized message (e.g. Happy Birthday John);
  • display the current date and the current temperature.
The software is published (open source) and available for anyone to modify and improve.

The hardware is compatible with Arduino IDE, and more accurately, is a clone of the Sanguino platform, using the same microcontroller (ATmega644P) and Arduino files.

  1. I presume you are using the DS3231 to measure the temperature. I have been experimenting with the DS32321 in another project and I'm not sure if you have to limit the current but here's what I found:
    http://i52.tinypic.com/2hpkl7k.jpg
    That is over ~9 hours, the top being a DS3231 and the bottom being a TC74 - I disconnect power for about an hour in the middle of this.
    The DS3231 starts up at the right temperature and then over about half an hour or so it rises to ~4 deg over room temp. Have you experienced anything like this?
    I do have another DS3231 which I'll try at some point and see if it's any different.

  2. Yes indeed, temperature value is retrieved from DS3231. Honestly, I noticed that the temperature is a bit (~2 degrees Celsius) higher than the (assumed) room temperature, but I attributed that to the fact the sensor is in the middle of the board, among the others components, some of which may get warm.
    At that moment I was just interested in the feature itself, and not too concerned about the accuracy of the reading.
    But you have a valid point, the reading may need some calibration.

  3. I'm not thinking of using the temperature from mine as anything more than 'a value' but for a clock, people might look at it and accept that value. I'd at least knock off the decimals (and a few degrees) to get it closer to what it should be as having the temp to 1/4 deg implies an accuracy it (at least without calibration) doesn't have. I think the stated accuracy is +-3C or something.

    I'll try run some more tests and see what I come up with using my other DS3231 - might end up just taking off an abritrary value to get it closer and calling it a day :)

  4. You are right. I will "adjust" it to look more realistic. I will also take out the decimals.
    Thanks for the suggestion.
    I should also provide the option for Farenheit.

  5. Hi,
    I have a little question : is it possible to get a French version of the software, or to translate it ?

    ReplyDelete
  6. Paul,
    I guess you are asking if the quotations can be in French? Not a big deal, I guess, google can translate the 120k file easily, although not accurately.
    The menu options and name of the days is even easier.
    So I would say, yes, we can have a French version of the clock.

  7. Thanks a lot for the answer. Of course, it would be for the menu, and for the days too...
    I know somebody who could translate some things... Since online translation sometimes isn't correct...

  9. I never shipped to India, so I don't know for sure. I know that for Europe shipping is $10 more, so I would assume it should be the same for India.

  10. Can you make the shipment free for me ?
    I shall order one for me, as I really like your project.

  13. Hi I'm interested in buying a wise clock 3 already assembled, and have it shipped to Canada. Do you still have any in stock?
    Also, is the clock running in 12 hr or 24 hr format?
    Thanks!
